Now that I'm officially retired I can apply for Social Security.
Previously I had started filling out the forms after figuring out how to create an account. That was another story. This time I was able to fill out all the forms online and get to the end to submit my claim. With that the Department of Social Security sent me an email with some homework. I needed to submit a W-2 and my marriage certificate.
?
Ok I can do that. It said that I could mail it but gave no address or to who's attention. I can see problems with that. So I decided to take the documents down to the local office, I had been that before.
So I made copies of both, in color to give them. Got to the office and checked in, It wasn't too crowded so my wait was not too bad.
When I was called I told the lady at counter 16 why I was there. She asked for my paperwork and ID. I gave here the copies. She looked and said that they needed the original marriage certificate and they would make a copy. Okay.
I them asked her why I had to provide all this extra information when my wife did not have to provide any of the extra things. She said it may have been the way she answered the questions. The said "Are you still married?"
Jan has some 'splaining to do.
