What's After Work?

 Hi all, it's been a while. I guess with the continuing pandemic and all it's variations I just got complacent. Riding my bike, shopping online and planning a wedding. But now Christmas and the wedding are over and I can get back to telling about what happens during retirement.   Last year my son Austin became engaged to his now wife Morgan.  A tradition that my mom started is to make the newly weds a memory quilt. At the beginning of last year Jan and I began to make Morgan and Austins memory quilt. To the right are the fabrics we bought. The lighter blue is the fabric was sent to 40 family and friends.  We asked them to create a memory they have of Austin or Morgan on the square. Long ago we had decided to have our family celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas together at a cabin in the mountains of Blue Ridge Georgia. Then Covid happened and we began to vacillate on that decision. After much debate it was decided that the cabin was big enough and we were capable to practice social distancing and safely be together. We also decided to be tested for the virus just before leaving for our gathering. So with a negative test, wipes and sanitizer in hand Jan and I left for Blue Ridge Georgia. This is the earliest we have ever had out Christmas shopping done and wrapped to boot! It is a strange feeling to have this done so early I'm not sure how December will be not having to shop and wrap. I'm sure it will be a lot more relaxed. Or I hope so. Last night's service was like no other I've ever been to. One of the things that I like about the Episcopal Church is that it is consistent. One service to the next and one church to the next I can count on what will happen in a service. Last night before the service started I noticed a great number of people I did not recognize. That's OK great to have more in the church. And lots of talking, OK there are a bunch of old folks that like to talk. Then the service started and I tried to find the song...it was different from what was printed. OK last minute change I can go with that. Then we get to the Gospel. I'm waiting for the procession of the cross, candles and bible. I'm looking at the Gospel in the program and I notice Father Suhar wandering toward the middle of the church. He begins to give the sermon. I'm flipping through my program thinking I missed something. Nope, He just skipped over the Gospel. Okay? Go right to the sermon. Jan says he included ...
