More on Social Security

Now that I'm officially retired I can apply for Social Security. Previously I had started filling out the forms after figuring out how to create an account. That was another story. This time I was able to fill out all the forms online and get to the end to submit my claim. With that the Department of Social Security sent me an email with some homework. I needed to submit a W-2 and my marriage certificate. ? Ok I can do that. It said that I could mail it but gave no address or to who's attention. I can see problems with that. So I decided to take the documents down to the local office, I had been that before. So I made copies of both, in color to give them. Got to the office and checked in, It wasn't too crowded so my wait was not too bad. When I was called I told the lady at counter 16 why I was there. She asked for my paperwork and ID. I gave here the copies. She looked and said that they needed the original marriage certificate and they would make a copy. Okay. I ...

Navigating Social Security

Waiting for their number to be called. Today I started the process of receiving my Social Security. Well actually I started last Saturday. You start this process by creating an account on My Social Security . Here they begin by asking you such simple questions such as your name, address and SS#. First try BUZZZ WRONG ANSWER! The name does not match the SS#.  Okay I know who gets their name wrong. Well let me explain. My parents (my dad) gave me four names. Most forms only allow for 3 and for this first try I chose poorly .  So at this point I went back to my dresser and got my ORIGINAL Social Security card. This was the kind that you got way back when a person had to go down to the Social Security office and sit in from of some one with a typewriter who pecked out what ever wild name your grandmother gave them when she took you downtown to get your first official government document.
