More on Social Security

Now that I'm officially retired I can apply for Social Security. Previously I had started filling out the forms after figuring out how to create an account. That was another story. This time I was able to fill out all the forms online and get to the end to submit my claim. With that the Department of Social Security sent me an email with some homework. I needed to submit a W-2 and my marriage certificate. ? Ok I can do that. It said that I could mail it but gave no address or to who's attention. I can see problems with that. So I decided to take the documents down to the local office, I had been that before. So I made copies of both, in color to give them. Got to the office and checked in, It wasn't too crowded so my wait was not too bad. When I was called I told the lady at counter 16 why I was there. She asked for my paperwork and ID. I gave here the copies. She looked and said that they needed the original marriage certificate and they would make a copy. Okay. I ...

Paper Work

In my retirement meeting at ROSSAC Visited the school district personnel office today to go over the paperwork involved in actually retiring and receiving the pension from the State of Florida. There were about 12 people there today to go over their paperwork. We all met at first together and a lady went over the entire process and touched on all the paperwork we had received in a folder when we got there. After that they saw 4 of us at a time individually with a person from HR to go over and explain exactly what we could expect in the next few months and the paperwork we needed to fill out for all the different entities involved in my retirement and near future. This did take a while, I think that there was about as much paperwork as buying a house.  I did have the advantage of having Jan with me and she went through this same process about 2 years ago when she retired and was a great help to me keeping everything straight.
