Day 23 of the Great Cycle Challenge

I rode a different route today. I headed north toward Patty's house. I was meeting Jan there and the three of us were going out to lunch at the Tarpon Turtle. We had a nice lunch even if the guitarist was playing Jimmy Buffet a little too loud. Our tables looked out over Lake Tarpon.

The ride was uneventful and the weather for the first day of fall was nice. I had something I had not had before, a fish reuben. It was quite tasty and I'd have it again.

With today's ride I have 82 miles to go in the next 7 days to reach 300 miles for the month, I can do that number easily. The other number is $1042 to reach my goal of $2500. A Quest

With my retirement looming I feel that I need an activity, a reason to get up in the morning. A quest to give my life meaning. I've been puttering around the house the last few days. Cleaning and arranging things around the house. Moving stuff from one place to another to create what I imagine is order in my life. I'm beginning to realize I've got about as much order in my life as I want. I have found that my most creative ideas come from the chaos around me. So L'm going to take a different route. Last night I was watching "The Hobbit" and thought a quest is what I need. A quest is what it is then. But unfortunately there is no Smaug for me to battle. Using Bilbo Baggins and the Hobbits as my guide on this quest I decided that meals should be part of this retirement quest. Here is my plan. Year and a Day

For a year and a day I have been waiting and on March 16th 2021 I received the second of the required vaccines needed to prevent covid 19. It has been a long strange journey to get here. During this time I have learned about myself and others. Last January Jan and I took a big trip to Hawaii. It was great we flew from Tampa to Hawaii in a big plane packed in with a bunch of people we did not know. No masks or excessive hand washing. I'm not even sure we carried any hand sanitizer. While there we ate out at restaurants and visited sights with lots of people. I also just started my retirement in January and had planned to do lots of fun things. I was going to get involved with volunteering in my community. Jan and I were going to travel and see things. Downhill Side of Our Trip

Day 11, Heading to Bentonville to see the People of Walmart . Yea I know this is a little late. Life gets in the way. October 18th we arrived in Bentonville AR. After checking into the Home 2 Suites in Bentonville we decided to visit the Walmart Museum . This is located in the original Walton 5&10 and has the story of Sam Walton's humble beginnings and the rise of Walmart to what it is now. It was interesting to see all the history of the store. We even got to see the Medal of Honor given to Sam Walton by George H.W. Bush. The museum was set up like a time-line of the growth of Walmart through the years. This was interesting to see and remember what I was doing at diffident dates. Sam Walton's office was recreated in the museum as he left it the day he died. It was a time capsule from the 1990s.
