Day 9 of the Great Cycle Challenge

I'm riding in the morning cause the afternoon looks like rain. Today I stopped at Coopers Bayou Park to relax and take a video.  This is a nice park with a lake and sidewalks. It is about 3 miles from my house so by the time I get there is is time for a water break.

My ride and fund raising is going very well. If you are still thinking about making a donation wait until Wednesday September the 14th and your donation online will be doubled! Great way to make your money count. For those who have misplaced the link to my page here is is https://greatcyclechallenge.com/Riders/ChanBliss Go there and click "Donate Now" but wait till Wednesday to really make it count. (I'll remind you again 😁)

I've had some comments about my story yesterday and "leaving a bro hanging". Let me assure you that when I ride by all three in the car were fine. Sitting nice and dry in their car and one was on the phone.
I was outside in the rain cold and wet.
The way the car was off the road I knew even if all three in the car and me were pushing we would not be able to get the tire back up on the pavement. The tire was just barely touching the ground and the frame of the car was resting on the curb. It was stuck.
I also figured they needed a little time to contemplate where they went wrong on this little adventure. Was it going for a drive to the beach on a rainy day? Driving around the barriers to get to the trail?  Or trying to turn around in the narrowest part of the trail cause they decided not to try the bridge?
Or was it all of this and more, I don't know. All I know is that they were gone today except for some tire marks in the dirt and some scrape marks on the pavement.

I'm pointing at the tire mark and you can see the scrape marks on the curb.

That is the first time I have seen a car stuck there. I have seen many cars stuck in the sand when they drive around the barriers on the beach that have signs saying not to go past and the tide comes in. There are signs saying not to do these things so remember "reading is fundamental."

Radiation Therapy

Dr. Galloway and the gang over at West Florida Radiation Therapy have developed a very efficient process of treating their patients. I arrive about 5 minutes before my scheduled treatment time. The waiting room is often empty in spite of having plenty of chairs. I have my temperature taken and wash my hands. Then within a minute or two I will have my name called. As I'm going back to the treatment room there is usually another guy just coming out of that room.  When the technicians are ready they call me in and I climb onto the treatment table. After I'm on the table my feet and legs are aligned using a hard pillow that is molded to my legs and feet. Then the table is moved into position and the technicians adjust me using lasers and my aiming tattoos.  The techs then leave the room and the machines take over. First two arm move into position to x-ray me to determine the position of my prostate. The table will make slight adjustments itself to move me into the best position. A...

A Quest

With my retirement looming I feel that I need an activity, a reason to get up in the morning. A quest to give my life meaning. I've been puttering around the house the last few days. Cleaning and arranging things around the house. Moving stuff from one place to another to create what I imagine is order in my life. I'm beginning to realize I've got about as much order in my life as I want. I have found that my most creative ideas come from the chaos around me. So L'm going to take a different route. Last night I was watching "The Hobbit" and thought a quest is what I need.  A quest is what it is then. But unfortunately there is no Smaug for me to battle. Using Bilbo Baggins and the Hobbits as my guide on this quest I decided that meals should be part of this retirement quest. Here is my plan. A Quest " Seafood Resturants I'm Goina Eat At "  Some of these places I have already eaten at but they deserve a second try. Others are new to me and ...

Downhill Side of Our Trip

Day 11, Heading to Bentonville to see the People of Walmart .  Yea I know this is a little late. Life gets in the way.   October 18th we arrived in Bentonville AR. After checking into the Home 2 Suites in Bentonville we decided to visit the Walmart Museum . This is located in the original Walton 5&10 and has the story of Sam Walton's humble beginnings and the rise of Walmart to what it is now. It was interesting to see all the history of the store. We even got to see the Medal of Honor given to Sam Walton by George H.W. Bush. The museum was set up like a time-line of the growth of Walmart through the years. This was interesting to see and remember what I was doing at diffident dates.  Sam Walton's office was recreated in the museum as he left it the day he died. It was a time capsule from the 1990s.  His pickup truck was also there also preserved as he left it.  For dinner we decided to try out a restaurant recommended by a  New York Times food cr...
